Shoe Vouchers

Haggens partners with GBRC for the Annual Haggen to Haggen 5K and proceeds from the event help fund scholarships for local college bound high school students and provides shoe vouchers for low income high school athletes. 

GBRC shoe vouchers Program history:

• Fall 2011 the program started and the vouchers were valued at $75.00
• As of 2015 or 2016 raised the vouchers value to $100.00.
• Emails are sent to High School Cross Country (XC) coaches in the Fall, (first week of September) and all the High School Track coaches in the Spring (early March).
• Prior to the Spring of 2017 each school could request up to 2 shoe vouchers. Beginning in the Spring of 2017 changed to only be 1 voucher per school.

The High schools are:

Bellingham, Sehome, Blaine, Ferndale, Lynden Christian, Meridian, Lynden, Nooksack, Mt Baker, Squalicum

Vouchers are redeemed at either Fairhaven Runners or Bbay Running and then sent to GBRC’s treasurer for reimbursement.

Starting in Fall of 2018 shoe vouchers have an Expiration date to promote prompt usage so GBRC can keep track and re-issue the unused portion of funds for more shoe vouchers allowing more opportunity for those in need of running shoes to utilize the program fully every year.

Each Fall School year an email will be sent to all the high school cross country and track coaches informing them about the shoe vouchers that are available for that school year so they have the opportunity to request them.

At the beginning of Spring quarter (April), a reminder email will be sent to the same coaches at all the listed high schools with the remaining shoe vouchers still available along with a reminder about the Haggen to Haggen race date.
