Trail Work Party!

Saturday September 22nd was the Autumn Equinox marking the first official day of Fall. It was also the scheduled day for the GBRC sponsored trail work party at Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve. A hearty group of GBRC members showed up even though it was pouring down rain! The large work party also included members of Washington Trail Association, Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition and Whatcom County Parks and Recreation.

Our GBRC group hiked three miles into a new section of the Cougar Ridge trail and spent the day building trails alongside the others from the three organizations. It was inspiring to see how much could be accomplished in such a short amount of time with all of us working together for a common goal. It’s also amazing how much effort goes into building and maintaining trail systems. Just one day of trail work can exponentially increase the appreciation factor for the people who create the trails that we all get to enjoy everyday and often take for granted.

Blue sky appeared Saturday afternoon and the mud dried up on our clothes as our group hiked out of the forest. The Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve is a beautiful place to explore, run, hike and more. Thank you to all the members who signed up and showed up to help. It’s just another reason to love being a part of this Greater Bellingham running community.

Your BIG Goal

Running Tips from the Fit School

So, what is your BIG goal? What do you want so much and makes your heart sing so loudly, that it will take you out the door for a walk or a run even on those not-so-perfect days? Write this goal down, put it into your phone to show up each day, put it on her nightstand, bathroom mirror, and computer. This BIG goal will help you get out of bed when the alarm goes off at 5 a.m. for your morning walk or help you refocus when you are tired after a long day in the office.

What is your BIG goal? Write it down right now. Do 1 tiny step in the next 24 hours to make that goal happen.

Let’s do this!
