Linda Beckman and Terri Lee are stepping down as co-RDs for the Chuckanut Foot Race. Their five years of outstanding service, together with the support of Fairhaven Runners, has helped make this one of the most popular and well-organized races in the Northwest. Fairhaven Runners is also stepping down as race sponsors, so this is a time of renewal and (perhaps) simplification for this classic and scenic event.
GBRC is now seeking a new Race Director and several co- / sub- directors to take on this race for 2010. The new RD(s) will have considerable freedom to re-shape the race and perhaps return it to its original, simpler roots, while the co-RDs will be in charge of particular aspects of the event. Linda and Terri have graciously agreed to help with the transition by sharing their extensive experience and advice, as will others who have helped arrange various aspects of the race behind the scenes. The race has a stable cadre of volunteers and a faithful following of dedicated athletes, regularly reaching its limit of 1000 runners. Dating from 1967, in various formats, it is now probably the oldest running race in the state.
If you are one of the many who had enjoyed this event over the years, now is the time to pay back by volunteering to take on the organization of some aspect of the race. To find out more and to indicate an interest in taking on some aspect of the race, please contact:
