GBRC BOARD MEETING MINUTES OF MAY 19, 2008
Attending: Tjalling, Terry Lee, Alison, Christy, Paul, Gale, Bill, Cheryl, Carolyn, Rick, Polly and Len
Location: Community Food Coop Connection Building
Secretary’s Report: Approved
Treasurer’s Report: Approved. Gale provided the financial report through the first quarter of 2008. Revenues had increased due to, primarily, race entries to the Chuckanut 50K. Rick will provide a breakdown from Paypal at the next meeting.
Membership: Bill reported membership at 571 with 339 households receiving the newsletter. There are 92 gratis members with 39 households.
Boris still wants a $10 refund for his senior membership.
Website: Comments now appear at the bottom of the web race pages.
Newsletter: Paul and Cheryl are not satisfied with Towner Press and will look into a new printer. Copy Source was suggested. The next deadline will be May 31 with distribution set for mid-June.
Race Director Liaison: Haggen to Haggen had 560 run finishers. Jean and Rick are retiring from directing this event. Jean has streamlined the operation, but the Haggen contact this year was not good. Results were broken down to 3 in each age group.
The Chuckanut Footrace directors are Terry Lee and Linda Beckman. Registration is limited to 1000 participants and it filled last year. Shirts must be ordered by June 16. There is no day-of-race registration. A Bellingham Parks and Rec team will help on the course.
The Lake Whatcom Trail Run needs a permit from County Parks.
Race Director recruitment: Haggen to Haggen needs director(s) and Lake Samish runs needs a co-director to work with Christy Fazio.
Track Workouts: Joel is using Sehome High track. There are 12-15 participants now and Joel plans to continue the workouts after the Chuckanut Footrace. A member not in the track workout group complained that the track group members were rude while running. Joel needs to discuss track running etiquette with the group. The complaining member should be tolerant as well.
Equipment Manager/Tech Coordinator: Alison reports the right to use county parks is becoming more difficult. The GBRC may need to talk with the director about limits on usage.
Equipment: Inventory needs to be done. Cheryl and Alison will do inventory. Many groups are using club equipment. Items are lost or broken. The club will look into buying a new, smaller chronograph race clock. Our space to store items is limited and a larger storage unit may be needed.
Events/Activities: Polly will coordinate the summer picnic/ timed prediction run at Lake Padden on July 16. Sub sandwiches and pot luck dishes will be served.
Old Business: Silver Lake Run: GBRC will not host the run this year, but may be able to find directors for ’09.
Girls on the Run (road running safety and etiquette)—Gale will talk with them before the Fairhaven Frosty. Adult running buddies to run with the girls would be safer.
Registration Brochure status: Alaine has been working on the brochure. Polly has a copy but it still needs an edit. 500 will be printed.
Chuckanut 50K changes: Tjalling reported there are no changes as yet.
New Business: GBRC High School Scholarships went to Nathan Seely and Haley Pratt.
Use of club funds: Gale, Cheryl, Len, Rick and Christy will be on the committee. Ideas include buying a new race timing clock, seminars for coaches at the high schools and to groups like Girls on the Run.
Fall Cross Country series: Rick would like to be the cross country leader. He would do it alone or with Joel.
Newsletter deadline is May 31.
Board Meeting: The September meeting is Monday, the 15th, 6:30, at the Food Coop.
