News Article: Volunteers Wanted for Trail Maintenance!

- 1/31/07

The severe windstorms that hit Whatcom County during the last couple of months has left quite a toll on the Chuckanut Mt. trails. There are still many trees and limbs covering the trails, some of them creating significant barriers for runners. In order to get the course for the Chuckanut 50K in reasonable condition we are planning a trail cleanup day on Saturday, Feb 24, and are looking for volunteers.

Right now several sections of the course have anything from loose branches on the trail to large trees over the trails. We'll be using pruners, hand saws and hands to help make the course as hazard free and obstacle free as possible for the race scheduled March 17. Please email Rick Hill at

rickjhill@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out or have any questions. We'll be meeting at Fairhaven Park at 9:00 AM to coordinate who will go where, based on the trail conditions at that time. Here's your chance to get out on the 50K course without having to do all that running!
